Bankstown-Lidcombe Hospital has a 14 bed Paediatric Unit with four isolation rooms. The Unit caters for newborns to adolescents 16 years of age. The Unit provides general paediatric, orthopaedic, surgical, ENT and MRI services.

The Paediatric Unit is dedicated to the high quality medical and nursing management of children and their families. We have highly experienced and dedicated clinical staffs who are affiliated with both the Sydney Children’s Hospitals Network (Randwick and Westmead). We also provide training for clinical staff from other tertiary level hospitals and universities including the University of New South Wales, the University of Western Sydney, the University of Technology Sydney, the University of Notre Dame, and the University of Tasmania. Parents and families are encouraged to participate in the care of their child. A sofa bed is provided at the bedside for one parent to stay overnight.

The Ward has an onsite Department of Education and Training school with qualified teachers who ensure continuation of educational activities whilst the child is in hospital.

Paediatric Outpatient Clinics

The Paediatric Department has weekly outpatient clinics for the follow up of patients discharged from the Emergency Department and the ward. In these clinics both simple and complex medical conditions are managed. In addition, the department is supported by the VMOs who see patients in their practices in the Bankstown local area.

Special Care Nursery

Bankstown-Lidcombe Hospital delivers more than 2200 babies per year. This is supported by a 10 bed special care nursery, which cares for term newborns and premature infants from 34 weeks gestation onwards.
